I have loved woodworking for as long as I can remember. For one reason or another I never was able to set up a complete woodworking shop. I am happy to say with my last major purchase my shop is complete (atleast for now). I now have a different problem. Not enough room. Does this sound familiar?

That mess was the lowest point for me. I have learned to not get involved with too many projects at the same time. With the limited amount of space that I have (one car worth of garage), if you pull out a bunch of wood and a bunch of tools, pretty soon you can't move too well. Due to my lack of room most of the projects will be small useful things. One of my favorite projects is making toys for the Toys for Tots program. Go Marines! It's a great cause. It proved to be the most fulfilling thing I've ever done.

I set up my shop little by little over a few years. With the addition of a lathe and a plainer 3 years ago. I hadn't done as much as I would have liked to due to the room restrictions. I hope to show what can be done in your everyday garage woodworking shop.

By keeping the projects small, it affords us to find bargains in the wood department. Me personally, I am always on the lookout for free wood. I rescued some 5/4 white oak that was headed for the dumpster at my last job during a renovation. I also got some sweet Mahogany flooring. It is going to make a nice picnic table project for the sundeck. That was headed for the dumpster too. All totalled I picked up about 20 board feet of the White Oak and 25 board feet of the Mahogany. Being green can save you green.
